What we collect
Your work history, resumes, job descriptions you paste or upload, and anything you say in the guided-interview chat — including, if you use the microphone, the text transcribed from your recording (we don't keep the audio itself) — because that's the material the app needs to build accurate, honest resumes. If you're on the acting/stunt track, this can also include physical description fields you choose to fill in (height, weight, eyes, hair, build, playing age range). We also store your name and email (via Clerk, our sign-in provider) and billing status (via Stripe, our payment provider) for paid plans. If you cancel a subscription, we also keep the reason you pick on the cancellation screen and, if you choose "Other" and type one, your comment.
How it's used
Your work history and job descriptions are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to extract structure, score fit, and draft tailored resume content. Voice recordings are sent to Deepgram for transcription into text. Those are the only reasons your content leaves our servers. We don't sell your data, and we don't use it to train anyone's AI model or to target you with ads. We don't run third-party analytics or tracking scripts, and we don't use cookies or browser storage to track you (the Chrome extension's own counts are described below) — Clerk sets a session cookie so you stay signed in, and that's the only cookie in play. We do count, on our own servers, which features you open and use (which feature, which button, and when — never what you typed), so we know what to improve; those counts are kept for about 13 months.
Where it's stored
In Cloudflare's database and file storage (D1 and R2), tied to your account. Sign-in is handled entirely by Clerk; payment details are handled entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your password or card number ourselves. Confirmation emails go out through Resend. If you choose to keep your own resume's look, the Word file you upload for that is stored in the same place until you remove it or delete your account.
The Chrome extension
The Got Your Back Job Capture extension works only on the tab you open it on. When you open it, it reads that tab's link and title, to fill in its paste form. When you click "Capture this job", it reads the posting: the text of the page's main content (or the whole page, if it has no main section), the job details the page publishes for search engines, and any text you've selected, and it picks out the facts the posting states (title, employer, location, pay). On LinkedIn, Indeed and Glassdoor it doesn't capture (their terms don't allow it); you paste the description yourself. It never reads other tabs or your browsing history, and it makes no network requests on its own.
Captures stay in your browser, in the extension's own storage, until you choose "Import selected". Then only the captures you picked go to gotyourback.careers, into your signed-in account, with their link, title and the time you captured them, and show as Imported jobs. Captures you haven't imported stay until you import or delete them. Imported ones are removed from the extension 7 days after import (checked when Chrome starts or you open the extension), or sooner if you clear them. Removing the extension deletes everything it kept.
Each import also sends the extension's counts: how many captures you've tried, how many worked or failed, and how many days since you first opened it. We keep those numbers with your account in our internal activity log, to tell whether capture works; "Start over" keeps them, and deleting your account erases them.
Deleting an imported job removes it; a job you already analyzed from it keeps its own copy of the description until you delete that job. Imported jobs are deleted with "Start over" or your account.
We use what the extension sends only to provide this service: like any job description, an imported one is stored with Cloudflare and sent to Anthropic when you analyze it. We don't sell it, use it for ads, or share it for anything else. Our use of information received from the extension follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Your control over it
You can edit or delete any individual role, bullet, education entry, certification, or skill in your profile yourself, anytime, from your profile page — nothing about self-serve correction requires asking us. You can also download everything as a plain-text export.
To delete your account — your profile, resumes, job records, and stored answers — go to your profile page and choose "Delete your account" at the bottom (that includes any cancellation reason or comment you gave). It's immediate and doesn't require our approval. It also cancels any paid plan right away. If you only want a clean slate, "Start over" on the same page clears your profile, resumes and jobs but keeps your sign-in and plan, and your application history (applications tracker and agency waiting periods) unless you choose to delete that too. A few things are kept even after that: an internal activity log we use for security and troubleshooting, our record of AI-processing cost tied to your account, and, if you ever subscribed to Active Search, the renewal-consent record California law requires us to retain for a few years. Feature-use counts also stay, but with your account removed from them, so they no longer point to you. None of that is shown on any resume or profile, and none of it is used once your account is gone except as described. If you'd rather we handle deletion for you, email josh@gotyourback.careers instead.
Billing
Subscription cancellation and refund terms are covered on the Terms page.
One more thing
This page is a plain-language summary. The full Terms of Service cover cancellation, refunds, and liability in more formal detail. If anything here is unclear, or you'd like the more detailed retention and service-provider breakdown behind this summary, email us before you upload anything sensitive.
